| ENTERTAINMENT-
GOLF - Overlooking the Fifth fairway of a PGA designed 18 hole Championship
par 72 Golf course – yet close to long sweeping beach –
perfect for a stroll (or a run!). Green fees around US$65 including
golf cart and GPS yardage finder. Callaway clubs can be hired. Between
5000 and 7000 yards on flat terrain with panoramic views, teaching
and practice facilities plus delicious lunches (and fruit punches)
provided at the club house. Tobago Plantations Golf and Country
Club beside the 5 star Hilton Hotel and long sandy beach. Golf as
a spectator sport is available in March for the European Seniors
Tour Championship (2002,3 & 4).
DIVING -
Tobago is one of the Caribbean’s finest diving locations providing
wreck and reef diving plus great drift-diving. Swim with giant rays
and angel fish around coral gardens. Master PADI dive instruction
for novice scuba divers. Not just for winter sun Tobago is diveable
year round (the best being from May to July).
SNORKELLING
in Tobago’s clear water off some beaches or by boat trips
to reefs and deserted coves or view the fish from glass bottom boat
if you prefer.
HIKING –
Explore Tobago’s lush tropical scenery - exerting yourself
as much or as little as you like.Guided tours can be arranged but
hiking trails criss cross the hills and give access to swimmable
waterfalls and protected rainforest, that some describe as a garden
centre on steroids! The size and variety of plant life is spectacular,
from Jurassic-era tree ferns, philodendrons with huge leaves then
tiny white orchids clinging to branches.
BIRDWATCHING -
or just enjoying the birdsong in one of the richest areas for biodiversity
in the world, Tobago’s clear water is attractive to sea birds
plus they can find remote and peaceful nesting areas. There’s
over 200 bird species – both rare and well known such as the
pelicans, frigate bird and brazen Bananaquit. Tobago Plantation’s
mangrove board walk gives easy access to 60 species.
EATING -
Excellent restaurants abound from casual outdoor barbeques to international
cuisine in smart surroundings, fine fish or local fare in karywak
village – most within a few minutes drive of the villa by
hire car or taxi or just a walk to the plantation style Hilton (with
its dramatic lobby) for French a la carte or buffet by the pool
- or eat in after watching the sun go down over the lagoon.
NIGHTLIFE -
Tobago prides itself on offering a tranquil and relaxing holiday
but nonetheless entertainment can be found at well known night spots
after sunset (and daytime too on Sundays!) or enjoy the local Carib
beer in a bar or visit the Casino.
